Accidental Deletion Of Shared Files?

  dublincity 15:20 08 May 04

I'm on Win XP Pro. When I click 'Start', then 'Help and Support' on the menu, I get nothing. Once (only) I got a message box saying something like 'can't be found - .dll missing'. Nor can I get to 'Help' via any other route.

Recently, when doing a routine uninstall, I stupidly clicked 'Yes' when it said (roughly), ' ...... this is a shared file but is not being used by any other program. Do you want to delete' etc.

Does anybody know if I can sort this problem out? Many thanks, Mike.

Try the system file checker

sfc /scannow

You will need the XP CD.

Thanks for advice about file checker. I haven't got the formatting CD but will get back to my neighbour who made the PC for me. Cheers, Mike.
