"Access denied" to restored folder

  3rdday 21:53 08 Jun 03

I have had to reinstall Windows XP and I am in the process of restoring all my backed up files. The first thing I have restored is the contents of my "My Music" folder. However, when I now try and go into the foler, I get the message " ....\My Music is not accessible. Acesss is denied".

How can I get it so that I can get into it again?

I have XP Home, not Professional, so I don't have the security options mentioned in that article. Do you have any other suggestions?

LastChip is right. Taking ownership of a file or folder is the way to regain access which has been lost after reinstalling XP.

In XP Home, to gain access to the Security tab in Properties of a folder or file, I think you have to restart in Safe Mode, then log on as an Administrator, or log on to an account with Administrator privileges. Then follow the instructions to take ownership.

Safe mode did the trick. Fantastic!

Thanks for your help.
