I have been trying to install a HP7110 all in one printer, scanner, fax machine at work onto a XP machine, the software has loaded up OK. but when i connect the USB cable to the machine it detects the hardware then starts to install it but comes up with an "access is denied" error message,I am logged on as the administrator and have spent 2 hours on the phone to HP technical dept trying all sorts of solutions without success, just wondered if anyone else had had this problem as we have just about exhausted all the channels we can think of.Cheers.

1. Unplug USB cable

2. Uninstall drivers

3. Install software that came on disc and drivers

4. Plug in USB and retry

Tried it. Absolute nightmare, the HP software appears to uninstall in add-remove programs but whenb you go to reinstall error message appears "the installer has found that the software is already installed" Spent one of the hours talking to HP technician editing the registry before i could reinstall the software, Its a known problem with HP & XP apparently.

Thanks for that, the HP technician talked me through something very similar but with a few slight differences,I will go through it again in the morning when I get to work,I will let you know the outcome tomorrow evening.

After you have unistalled the software run Crap Cleaner click here, this shoul get rid of registry keys making XP think the software is still installed.
