AC97 audio drivers

hi i am trying to find audio drivers for my
friends 6 year old laptop.
its a patriot 3050 celeron m 1.3 gig.
the audio is c-media AC97.
its listed in device manager with code 10
the device cannot start.

Here is the list of drivers for C-Media on-board/PCI sound chipsets on the company's website:

Your chipset is most likely to be the 8738 (an excellent product which produces surprising good sound); running Everest Home Edition or SIW will provide the information.

If he has recently had an audio driver update from Microsoft maybe try rolling back the driver to the earlier one.or remove the driver and reboot Microsoft should then reinstall the driver.

ok installed driver ok but device manager says
code 10 device cannot start?
I looked in bios but found nothing about onboard audio. maybe wrong driver im using the 8738 driver.
All i know is that its c-media AC97.

AC97 is on-board audio - you should find it in the BIOS under Peripherals.

It could be listed in the Bios as AC 97 or On-board sound.

Needs to be Enabled.

yeah it needs to be enabled in bios but cant find any sign of ac 97 in bios, is it broken?
