ABC Chaos encryption

  HollBoy 19:30 02 Aug 08

Hi all. Anyone heard anything good/bad about the ABC Chaos freeware available on the net to encrypt files on a PC for added security? Or has anyone used it and can recommend (or not) it?

Is there a better/safer option.

Very few people actually need to encrypt their files. Do you? If you do then you must have something valuable there which are worthwhile protecting with trustworthy software which will most likely not be free.

If the information is of the same or similar value as by far the majority of computers that are around then I would not bother.

It all depends on how strongly you want the encryption! The freebies are never really going to be top notch. If you want a good encryption program then PGP is one of the best but it does not come cheap.

I use the excellent free open-source TrueCrypt click here to create encrypted password-protected folders to store sensitive info/files. G

P.S. btw, trying to visit the ABS Chaos site is throwing up warnings in Firefox (no problems in IE):

"Reported Attack Site!

Attack sites try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system.

Some attack sites intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners."
