Aaargh! USB does not exist.

I have a PC with 2 USB ports. When I plug any USB device in there is no respose whatsoever. If I go to Device Manager there is no mention of USB. So, being crafty, I thought I'd buy a nice new USB PCI card (which doesn't piggy back off existing USB) with 4 sockets and its own drivers. Still, when I plug it in and install the drivers - no USB - not a whisper.

How do I get my PC to start living in a USB world?

perhaps we can help.

W2000 Professional - although I think this was an upgrade from 98

Right Click My Computer; Properties; Hardware; Device Manager; and the last item on the tree should be Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Is that there?

If it is, expand it and tell us what entries you have.

no USB mentioned in device manager

BIOS? interesting ...

enter BIOS, scroll to Integrated Peripherals, and enter.

about halfway down the page you should find USB controller, suspect you may need to enable.

F10 and exit to windows.

Did you install usb card software first then insert card and reboot?

  MikeOT 22:40 17 Feb 04

instructions said do card, then reboot, then do software - so i did that.

when that didn't work, i did software, reboot, card.

tecnodimwit - i'll try your idea in the morning - watch this space.
