98 to xp pro upgrade

please help,need to upgrade 98 to xp pro.what is the best and easiest route a simple upgrade or clean install?.i have 2 hard drives,1 for programs etc and the other for music etc.i am worried it my wipe 2nd hard drive if i do a clean install.sorry for being a bit thick but i am lost.

You must backup your files. The best way to set up a problem free Win XP is to do a clean install. This means re formatting your hard drive first. Simply upgrading can lead to problems.

It is always best to go for a clean install, unless you want to keep some of your original settings, but then you may face the problem of some progs not working under xp that were written for 98.

do clean install if sure you want to wipe all your settings etc.

This will mean you will have to reload office photo progs etc.

Willl not install on second drive unless you select otion ofg where to install during setup process. Normal (default is to install to c:\windows
