The 7 Windows of your files

Am Running Vista 64bit at present & am deciding, even at this early stage, how best to migrate my files & settings over.
I have a couple of HDD's (4) in the computer & will hedge my bets by installing 7 on one of the drives that doesn't have Vista on so I can dual boot.
I had a go at using Vista's Easy Transfer program to se what happens, but after the computer had being running for 10 hours & the progress bar being at 25% completed I pulled the plug on it.
Does anyone know of a good external program (either costing, or free) that is reliable for this function as I have three computers to change over and I need as less hassle as I can get !
Cheers
