3Ds Max 5 running slow, Why?

Hi,

i have 3Ds Max 5 and am having problems with. It's making my pc slow. I don't know why. :o(
My machine is more than adequete.(if thats how you spell it)

P4 2.4Ghz on Gigabyte GA-8ir 533 motherboard.

1Gb of DDR RAM

120Gb Hard drive (62Gb free)

GF4 Ti4600

I chose to run 3Ds Max in D3D at first but my mate said it'll run better in openGL. I did as he said and changed the graphics setting to openGL.
This did improve it a little but it's still sluggish.
My mates are all using it on lower specced PC's but it runs fine on thiers. :o(

Basically, my whole system slows down, and not just 3Ds Max. The CPU usage light is constantly running, as if it's overloaded with processes or something!

Can anyone recommend any fixes or adjustments that i can make to either 3Ds Max or my PC???

If you have Norton anti-virus running in the background then this could be the culprit. See the Discreet support pages.

Try disabling Norton. If it is norton, then there is a patch or update on their site.
