3d Graphics with Centrino laptops

I am planning to buy a 1.7Gh Centrino notebook with onboard Intel 855GM graphics. Apart from work, I would like to play some 'retro' games on it-like Doom and an early version of Tiger Woods golf etc but nothing too modern or demanding. The machine reviews say 3d graphics are the weak point of Centrino machines. The one I am considering has a 3D mark of 1900. Would it be able to play these games reasonably OK? Any advice would be very welcome

Can't answer you, but want to follow the thread - I am in a similar situation.

Thanks for the lift!

I would have thought a 3DMark score of 1900 would be plenty of power to play games up to about a year old.
Take a look at the minimum spec for the games you want to play. Doom 1 & 2 can be run on just about anything above a 486. TigerWoods can be run on PIIIs so you shouldn't have any problems.
