3000 Sempron or 3000 Barton ?

I would like to buy a new cpu, my mother board (MSI 6712 KT4v) can take up to 3000 AMD 133 0r 166mhz. My question is should I buy a Barton (0.13u) 166/333MHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache or a Sempron 3000?

Which one will be faster?

Can anyone help

Sempron is cheap and cut down version in competition with Intel's Celeron, Barton is in competition with P4, so definitely Barton, but you may find difficult to find one

I doubt there would be any noticeable difference in performance although the Athlon XP (Barton) has a larger level 2 cache which should help. You would need a benchmark to tell. There is little in it where price is concerned too. I would suggest you just shop around for the best deal.

Just looked at the link provided by goonerbill © ®. Seems the Athlon XP 3000+ (Barton) is around 5% faster in most benchmarks, but the Sempron is a little faster in some. Differences that small just won't be noticed in everyday use.
