Do you mean you installed Win 98 after XP and if so, how did you install it?

just done this in another thread but you must use the initialize and convert disk wizard to write a signature to the drive otherwise it will not work in xp,run diskmgmt and rht click in the new drive window (farleft not in allocated space) and choose initialize.

"98 was installed by using the 98 boot floppy and changing C:\windows to D:\windows during setup but then C:\winXP would'nt boot so had to reinstall XP onto C:\"

First. Have you tried ellas's advice?

Secondly. When you first installed Win98, was that drive set as active?

Set your computer to boot from the CDROM drive, and boot from your XP CD.

Let the first part initiate and then when prompted, choose the repair option and select console.

At the command prompt type;

press enter and let XP do it's work.
