My pc crashed due to master hard drive - I changed the slave to master and just installed a 2nd drive without a jumper as slave but the pc cannot see it..Should I put a jumper on to make it slave or do I have to do something with the bios?

Have you put the Master on the End of the Cable? also go into BIOS to check that it see's them

Master is on the end of cable, should it not be?
Might seem a silly question to some but how to I go into Bios?

  woodchip 20:18 06 Nov 07

Yes the Drive is correct, BIOS is when your computer is booting it will say to enter setup press (xxx) where xxx is the key to press

The master should be on the end of the cable and set with the jumpers as master and the slave if there is one should be in the middle and the jumpers should be set as slave.
To get into BIOS press the delete key before windows loads. Usually delete but some PCs use the F keys.

Was in CMOS setup utility it showed
IDE Primary Master (ST380012ACE)
IDE Primary Slave (ST33250823ACE)

Should 2nd hard drive have a jumper? My last slave didn't have one..

Jumper Settings for Seagate ATA hard drives click here

It looks as though no jumper for a slave is correct.

Is the jumper on the correct pins for the master drive?

Right click my computer> manage> disk management> is the slave drive listed?

if it is, right click on the space to the right and pick new partition. follow the wizard and partition and format the drive.

Jumper is on the correct pins for master drive..
In disk management only the Master drive is showing in the top window - both are in the bottom window but I notice master is "online" @"healthy and slave is "not initialized" @ "unallocated" - if that helps?
