I have a Dell Dimension 4100 with Windows ME. A friend has given me a 15GB Quantum Fireball LCT15 hard disk with Windows 98 on it. This disk will be used solely to backup My Documents. I know how to physically fit the disk but I need advice on the software side of things.

Some masters even need the slave present set.

Is the disk on the same ide as your main hard drive? Have you set the jumper on it to slave?

If so follow woodchip's advice.

The drive was probably set as a master when you got it - have you reset the jumpers as a slave ?

No joy. I've noticed 2 pins missing from the drive compared to the diagram kindly provided by Marvin.
