2nd attempt - do i nudge up the........?

system bus or the cpu multiplier first?

is to lower the multiplier to 10 or 11 then wind up the FSB to a certain amount.

What board/memory and more important chip have you got?

I have a Gigabyte 8i875 click here

I have 2x512mb of DDR3200 memory.

I have a P4 2.8ghz 800fsb

....but I have the same question.

In my case I have an Asus A7N8X-X mobo with an Athlon XP2400+ cpu.

Cooling will be no problem as my Aero-7 fan keeps the temp at 40C even when turned down.

Bailey08787 Hope you (and I) get some useful info!

in terms of cooling, i have two fans sucking in, and two sucking out. I also have a zalman copper cooler click here - and my cpu temp is currently at 43 degrees

drop your multiplier's either in BIOS or with jumpers on the board then play with the FSB by increasing 2 or 3 mhz at a time till your PC wont boot. Then Drop it down 10mhz and then start windows. From there run 3d mark 2001 or 2003 and see if the system crashes.

If it does reduce the FSB again by about 5 and repeat the 3d mark. once you can do it 3 or 4 times fine then get a small program called memtest (Not sure on the link) Run that in dos and as it is running go make a cuppa.

If that goes through, you should be fine, but any lock up's just reduce the FSB a little and you are fine.

As for the P4, sorry bailey, i havent had any experience of them..

Keep an eye on the temp's, when first done and in the summer, cos the AMD's kill temp is about 85*C

Not too sure if the multipliers are locked on the XP2400, how long ago was it brought?

About 4-5 months ago. Mobo has already let me OC it to an XP2600+. Was curious to see how far I could push it.
