A 2.6 CPU on a 2.0 board???

(Asus tech help is currently closed down.)

According to the Asus' CPU support page, my A8n-SLI Deluxe (with the proper chipset and BIOS upbrades) will take an Opteron 185 Dual core (RevE6) CPU. But the 185 is a 2.6GHz cpu and the motherboard is only 2.0GHz

I've never overclocked a board. If I buy the 185, am I supposed to overclock my board to 2.6? This seems an awful lot.

Motherboards don't have MHz speeds - it's whether it is capable of accepting higher speed processors with or without updating the Bios and/or motherboard drivers.

If the CPU support page states it will accept the 2.6MHz CPU, then go ahead.

You don't need to overclock your motherboard. With bios 1013 click here. You can drop it in the motherboard and it will work.

Ok. That's good to know. Thanks.
