Is the above graphics card good? or would it be better going for the X800GTO or a GeForce alternative in terms of value for money?

Thanks

I am getting lost with all the combinations of letters in graphics cards. I just work on the principle that the cheapest is the worst and the most expensive is the best.

A read of click here might help. Im using the xl with amd 3000 and I find it ok. It has 16 pipelines as opposed to the 12 of the gto. Depends how seriously you take your gaming. The gto is a few quid cheaper I think. What spec system have you?

The X800XL works just fine, nice card. Also it doesn't require an additional power source. Which is handy on an older system.

heres a website that will give you some indication of which graphics card to buy. on the ATI side they tested the X800 XL/XT and NVIDIA's 6600 and 6600 GT. it is an indepth report so get ready for some reading 25 pages but at the end you will have a better idea which card to go for.

hzhzhz Its gonna be for a new system where I'll either get a Athlon X2 4800 Dual core or (if I dare) an Athlon FX processor along with 2Gb of ram, does that change things?

"does that change things?"

I'd say yes. I would go for a higher spec gpu,7800gtx perhaps, depending on budget of course.I'm not quite up with the last 3 months of new gpu offerings so perhaps other members would have a suggestion.
