What do I need to set up 2 PCs to use the same monitor (but not at the same time)? Is there a suitable switch - could be manual or auto? Both will be running XP Pro.

You need a KVM switch.... listed here

I use them all the time, and they work really well.

In my experience the cheap ones are often as good as expensive ones (not always), and cable length is one of the most important points to consider. Most work auto and manual.
