I was told that I needed 2 network cards in the computer that hosts the modem. So the LAN goes to one card and the modem is installed into another card???? Does this work and is it better than USB installation??

Yes, you should be able to get it working, and no it's not particularly better than using your modem on a USB connection. I have clients like this, with USB modems, and they work just fine.

The very best way though, is to get a router/modem - then you can connect both/all your systems to the router, and you will not always need the system with the modem to be switched on for the pther one to access the net.
