2 computers 1 printer. Sharing using usb

I have a desktop PC and a laptop. I have one printer and would like to be able to share the printer between the 2 computers using usb.

What I was thinking of doing is connecting a USB hub to the computer with the printer installed, connecting the printer to the hub, using an a to a usb cable to connect the laptop to the hub thus giving access to the computer and printer.

The limitations I can see with this is that I could only use the printer with the computers with the USB hub is turned on.

Maybe I could use a powered USB hub to get over this and have the printer installed on both machines.

Am i talking crap? can anyone advise me on this situation?

Can you not just swap the printer usb connecter between your pc and laptop when you need it.
Then you dont have to have your pc on to use the printer on your laptop.

Belkin at click here do a 4 port usb switch which can be used for this purpose, with both computers live.. Might be a bit extravagant for what you want to do but have a look.PCW used to sell them.
