I have had this pc (running windows XP) for 4 years and had no trouble running old games such as civilization 2 until I had to take the pc for repair about 6 months ago. Now the programmes are still on the hard drive but wont run and I cant reload them from disc. Compatability programme dosnt help either. Is there a download I can get to restore these games?

If this is a 16 bit subsystem error click here and scroll down to XP_FIX.EXE

I'm going to thank you for that link too.

I've just completely reinstalled my XP Pro system from scratch and couldn't install one of my older games (No-one Lives For Ever) due to a 16 Bit Subsystem error.

It ran fine before as did all my other old DOS games like the full TombRaider series.

I was just getting round to searching the web for a cure and just like that this Forum turns up trumps again.

When it's for a problem I hadn't actually asked about.......well what can I say!!!!

dwymond...thanks for having the same problem as me just when I needed it,LOL.

That has fixed the problem in just a few seconds, I have spent months trying to load these games. I'm off now for a few happy hours with some old favourites, thanks again.
