i have installed a PCI IEEE 1394 adaptor running on win98 with no problems...until i plug in my jvc camcorder, i then get a message on the device manager "1394\031887&040892" what in the world does it mean?

Is it a yellow and did plug and play wizard install it? See if you can change the driver in 'display a list of drivers...'.

it is yellow and plug and play wizard did install it along with the win98 driver.
but when i plug the camcorder in it all goes pear shaped with the above message, (jvc say no drivers needed for camcorder.)

Hello,
If you ever find out the solution to this problem please let me know. I haven't been able to follow Michelle's advice but she seems like a nice person.
mine reads: unknown device 1394/AOZD+10001

Good luck

What can I say, I am indeed a nice person.

Anyways, if you want have a look at all firewire card info here click here

BTW some dv cams have to be set in menu to transfer dv out or they won't be seen by pc. (plus cables can go duff, but rarely).
