120g hard drive

new hard drive bios reads as 122g windows xp on loading read as 117g now loaded my computer reads as 115g anyone know why.

Mobo info needed here, have you tried partitioning it in win xp? As if its that big it would be better!!

It looks all right to me (at least roughly). The 122GB i s a rough figure to start off with. Then in Windows, it uses the binary system so that 1KB=1024 Bytes, so that 122GB is shown in Windows as 122 divided by 1.024 3 times, which gives roughly 113GB. If you right click the drive in My Computer, Properties, one of the figures it gives is capacity 122,000,000,000 bytes (not this exact figure of course) and another figure in GB.

And my 40 shows 41gb before windows loads and then it is 39GB, so, if it really bothers you the loss of the space get another HD
