100% CPU usage on start-up

Everytime I boot up my PC, it takes an age for the machine to settle down enough for me to use it.

On investigation, I found that svchost.exe is sapping all the CPU power.

What can have caused this and how do I get rid!!??

If you are running XP there is a process that keeps the CPU occupied when there is nothing for it to do. It is called the system idle process and ensures that the CPU is always kept at 100%. This is to gain consistent loading of the CPU to keep temperatures and voltages at thier optimum.

that is without doubt the worst piece of advice i have ever seen on this forum, the idea of the system idle loop is to maintain the CPU at as low a load as is possible to keep its power usage and temps down.

Not to mention svchost.exe has nothing to do with the system idle process.
