At present I have 512mb (2 x 256) DDR2700 Ram installed on my Asus A7V8X mobo with XP2000+ running on XP Home.

Is it worth increasing this to 1 gig or is it a waste of time as I have read before that it doesnt increase performance by a great deal. I do the usual office stuff on the pc but am getting into digi photography using photoshop 5.

Comments would be appreciated.

i have a similar spec to you except my memory is
DDR2100 and i find this works just fine with my
picture editing,if you had 256 to start with i would
say upgrade but with 512 i'm not so sure you need to,video editing might need the extra but photo
editing should be ok.

"Readings taken with Content Creation Winstone prove that Windows 2000 and XP systems don't really take off until they have 1 GB or more of RAM. The benchmarks show how heavily system performance depends on the amount of memory. Indeed, 512-MB RAM is the bare minimum for fast Windows XP systems."

However i have 512MB RAM and it's just fine for me.

unless you are video editing you are unlikely to notice any difference between 512 and 1024, other than cost!
