Watching TV on PC via broadband

Like many, I guess, I've had a lot of spam about watching TV on PC via the internet, which seems useful. It seems to me that firms are proposing to send TV transmissions via one's broadband connection for the simple exercise of registering, without charge except for a possible one-time fee.

Ever cautious about possible scams, however, I'd appreciate any guidance from users or former users as to which providers of the service are good, and which (if any) are to be avoided like the plague.

Cheers
Keith
