I am trying to transfer home video from my Sony digital handycam to dvd, via my laptop. I have connected with a usb but the resulting dvd is nowhere
near the quality of the original digital tape. How can I improve the quality?

Can you connect directly through the graphics card?

What software are you using to transfer it?

Finally what format are you saving too?

No but I could connect via firewire.
The software is Windows movie maker.
Format not sure

I would recommend capturing the footage using firewire.

If you captured it using Windows Movie Maker, what settings did you use? If you used the default settings the file will be compressed and thus reduce the quality. If you captured the footage using MM, did you edit it, add transitions, music etc? and once edited what format did you save the finished movie in?

MovieMaker doesn't support burning to DVD - so what software did you use to burn?

All of the above will have some bearing on the quality of the finished production.
