Using A Ethernet Switch to Connect Network to Home Theatre

Our home office is set up in a room at the back of our home; We had an Ethernet cable connection from the NW Router hard wired from the office wall/ceiling to main living area and located the wall outlet adjacent to our home entertainment system.

We now have several HT components with network connectivity capability Wired & Wireless; The wireless connections via the network work OK for firmware & SW updates however when it comes to streaming music and especially video & movies it is not so reliable; a pain in fact!

We wish to install a network Ethernet switch at the home entertainment end initially to enable wired connection for the PS3 & Yamaha AV Receiver, previously we only hard wired the network connection to PS3, we have only recently upgraded our AV Receiver and now wish to take advantage of new features and audio streaming capabilities offered with this receiver.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on type of switch that could be used in this setup? Assuming it would work of course!

Thanks Beta appreciate the feedback most of the information out there on Ethernet switches described and gave examples of network setups relating to computing while pretty sure I would not be trail blazing there was that nagging doubt. tks
