TV on all day?

I have my tv on most of the day because the radio reception is so good.My last tv died a sudden death after about 4 years and someone has told me I could have been to blame and advised me not to do the same with my new set.
Surely this can't be correct?

Not true, probably better for it to stay on all day.

Sorry Switcher - I'm not questioning whether your answer was right or not, but I was just hoping you could explain why it would be better to leave it on all day? Why would that be? Thanks

Most of the 'stain' on a TV is at switch-on when the power supply regulating capacitors are discharged and there is a surge of charge current from the supply as it tries to charge them.

In a modern well designed set it should make no difference.
Your electric bill is another matter.
