SIM to microSIM

My new Nokia Lumia 800 has a micro SIM and my existing 5800 has a standard SIM.

I want to transfer everything over and a simple way shown on a website was to cut the larger SIM down to the size of the micro SIM, it says the operating gold chip areas are the same, only the plastic is bigger.

Is that correct? I don't want to start hacking it about and then not able to get anything by the usual route which I am trying to understand.

The only other way I thought, was to download the SIM to my PC and upload it back onto the micro SIM.

Thanks a lot Beta, those cutters much better than me hacking about with scalpel.
