Rather than buying a seperate DVD recorder for the TV is there any way I can use the DVD recorder on my PC. Would I require any special hardware for my PC?

a TV tuner card or other device with TV in and then you'd have to stretch a cable from one to the other. Or a wireless TV sender if a cable isn't viable.

Otherwise there are devices which allow you to stream media from PC to TV, don't know if they wouold work the other way around though

You don't even need to go as far as that...:-)

Buying a Freeview DVB PCI or USB PC card normally comes with PVR software features that allow you to watch, record, playback and even switch to recording a programme if you have to answer the door or phone.

An hour's MPEG2 recording takes up about one to 1.7GB on your hard drive and can then be viewed later or transferred to DVD if you have a DVD rewriter.
