Recording -Nothing at all

So in putting together this 'ere slide show I have included atmospheric music clips fading from one to another as the scene'sequence changes.
Good fun - if you like headaches.
Now from time to time I want to make a link -from one image/music with..............silence before the next slide with music comes up.
So I set up the record program[s] Audacity or NCH Record pad to record.....nothing,that is set the record program running creating a file with no input, for a minute,
Then clip 5 seconds here or ten there to place in the strategic positions.
Works fine - in the computer preview, but on the burned disk- there is a sound- perhaps attributable to electronic noise in the process or what?
So how can I record -nothing at all?
