Recording free view programs

Hi,
I don't want to appear stupid but when I try to record freeview programs on my dvd recorder all I get is a blank screen if I turn the tv off.

Now I'm not very electronically minded but I suspect that it's because when I turn off the tv,the built in freeview box is also turned off.

Am I correct in thinking that I will either have to buy another dvd recorder with a freeview box built in or,buy a freeview set top box.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance

Yes, it certainly would turn off the tuner if it is integral to the TV. A standalone Freeview tuner would be the most economical alternative, I think.

I bought this the other day

Now the Wife can record 2 freeview channels on that box, record analogue on her combi twin tuner and watch another channel. Boy, is she confused!
