playing home recorded DVDs on other players

Bought a Samsung R130 dvd recorder recently which records onto DVD-RW. Using Imation media.

I cannot get these discs to play in my portable DVD player (Shinco 1731) despite it supposedly playing all formats. The disc has been finalised. All I get when I put the disc in the portable is a couple of folders, but cannot open them or get anything to play.

I have tried the same discs in my PC and they play without problem.

Any ideas whats going on?

It doesn't look promising.

Just found out that you need to format the discs in DVD V mode, not the DVD VR mode, before recording. This will enable the finalised disc to play on another DVD.

i'll give that a go and see what happens. So far I have recorded in VR mode.
