more compression on dvd recorder than pc

  lofty29 12:32 27 Oct 08

Hi, I have a dvd recorder which will record up to 6 hours on a 4.7gb dvdrw, I also record on my pc via a capture card, but when I convert and burn to dvd the most I can get is 2hrs, so if I have say a 2.5 or 3hr programme I have to go through all the hassle of compressing it via dvd shrink, any ideas I know that I could burn on the dvd recorder and then copy, but going via the pc lets me edit out the ads.

Thanks guys have downloaded the nero vision and will give it a shot. I know that the differences are basically software, but do not understand why you can store at higher compression on the dvd recorder "on the fly", but not on the capture software on the pc.
