Linking laptop to TV??

Hello! I'm confused; I thought it would be simple to connect my laptop to my new TV - but it hasn't been easy!

Basically the output on my laptop is VGA, and my tv is HDMI.

My LAPTOP is -> (Sony Vaio VGN-FJ Seies Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 1.73GHz [if that means anything?! lol])

My TV is -> PHILIPS 26" HD READY DIGITAL LCD TV 26PFL5522D/05

Anyone know which wires I need to get to link them? I went to a well known high street store who call themselves "the experts" couldn't figure it out! GRRR!

Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

VGA to HDMI is not possible
VGA to Component requires a transcoder to change the color representation.

You must supply a standard 720p/60 HDTV signal; it's not a multisync monitor. 60 Hz refresh ONLY!
There is a converter, but it is a waste of money to use one.
A VGA connection cannot supply enough bandwidth; it will work but not like you want it to
HDM = High Definition Media Interface

VGA = Video Graphics Adapter

HDMI = is for high def content i.e. High Bandwidth
