Lighted a Video

I have been sent a DVD of a friends holiday, which comes up too dark, I have a program (videoredo) which lets me adjust the lighting level to see the DVD, but when I save it the lighting level remains the same.
Is there a program (Preferably free)that will allow me to change the lighting /contract level and save the saved film, so I can see it on a normal DVD player.
I use NERO 7 for burning, but as far as I can tell there is no way to adjust the lighting level on that.
Thank you

if i remember correctly Nero 7 will allow you to do this,i think it's select"make your own dvd"via smartstart menu, then import the movie, then you can edit it i am pretty sure you can increase the contrast ect
