Ipod playlists

  aitch2 15:31 20 Dec 07

I just opened up iTunes and I find that some of my listed songs have an exclamation mark against them and won't play as the dialog box says that 'file is not found'. Others do not have the exclamation mark, and will play from the hard drive. iTunes then said that an update was available and after completeing the update my playlist is now blank. I can go back to previous playlists, but they have the exclamation mark as described above. Can I re-import from the iPod and if so, how? Or is there another altenartive method.
