IPod Nano

I have a friend who has recently 'lost' all her music files of the desktop computer (it broke down - the repairer formatted the hard disk). She does have these files on her iPod nano - is it possible to restore her desktop files from the iPod? She says that it isn't - but is she correct?

If they are iTunes purchased then you can, but you need iTunes 7.

If they are imported from a CD, then I think you cannot.

Thanks, I think that they were bought from iTunes - she'll have to download iTunes7 anyway and we'll see what can be done.

Use something like Ephpod click here or Xplay click here which mounts the iPod as an external hard drive from which you can drag and drop. Pull the music off the Nano back into My Music and then reinstall iTunes and let that reload the Nano. If you plug the Nano into what it thinks is a new computer iTunes will just wipe it.

Thanks very much, no doubt she'll be delighted by this.
