What does this mean ?' HDMI - Upscales standard DVDs to 1080P' referring to a dvd writer.

This was described in the dvd writer's specification.

if you have a HD Tv and a upscale dvd play if you use a hdmi cable it will make a normal dvd look almost as good as a blueray dvd

Is it not the case that the TV will upscale any input to the required resolution anyway?

I've upscaled DVDs on the player and they look little different when viewed to inputting at lower resolutions. Certainly not HD quality.

I realise that upscaling doesn't add any image information, it just duplicates what already exists on the disc.

Agree with ├četa.

The claims are impressive but the performance isn't.
