HDMI and Scart

I have a Digital HDD recorder connected to a digital TV with an HDMI cable for sending upscaled DVD playback etc. To get more functionality for the TV (smartlink and Videoplus etc) a scart connection is required, unless I am not reading the manual correctly. Is it correct to use both types of connection as it is not overly clear in the manual.

The answer is it depends.

Very recent TVs using the latest HDMI configuration are able to use some of the features available in scarts. The chances are you will not have that so scart will be required for smartlink and video plus which is a scart only function for the majority. Which is why HDMI do not usually autoswitch the TV as scart does. It is changing however.
