DVD video camera quality?

I currently use a Panasonic video camera using mini DV tapes, and edit the footage on my PC using Pinnacle software for burning onto DVD.

My son-in-law extolls the virtues of DVD cameras but I'm a bit wary because, if I understand it correctly, the images are compressed in the camera as they're recorded onto the DVD. Doesn't that mean that quality will degrade even further when I edit them on my PC?

You'll get better quality on DV tape than on DVD. Try Googling dv tape vs dvd - this is 1 result click here

Thanks, Marvin. That confirms my suspicions :-)
