Driver for sony handycam

I have a sony handycam camcorder model DCR-TRV17E and when i connect it to my computer it doesnt recognise its there. I downloaded the sony usb driver but still no luck. I have a Dell dimension 5100running xp sp2. Any advice would be most welcomed.

Have you installed the sony software that came with your camera before you plugged in the camera?

just a though we have a sony handy cam
have you gone into the settings of the camera and turned on the usb streaming
thats what we had to do to get pc to recognis cam and transfer video.

Hi I have downloaded the usb driver but still no luck. Excuse my ignorance boggieman, where do i check for turning on usb streaming? I dont have the installation cd as it was my sons camera and he lost it!

the usb streaming is in the handy cam settings on the cam itself, sorry for tacking so long to get back

ps I have a 1.5 handy cam cd
can anyone tell me if it is illegal to copy it and pass the copy on.

heepster do you have broadband?
