Copying Video to DVD advice required

Hi All,

I don’t know much about DVD recorders but the time has come to move on as my VCR is playing up. As I have quite a large collection of videos, mostly purchased, I am thinking of buying a Panasonic DMREX95V DVD/HDD Recorder/VCR Combi. I read that it allowed video footage to be archived to DVD and was therefore hoping to be able to copy my tapes on to DVD’s but a friend told me this could only be done with tapes I had recorded myself off the TV. He said purchased videos are encoded to stop them being copied to either tape or DVD. Is he correct?.

Thanks.

I had similar thoughts, but the majority of commercial tapes are rejected by the dvd recorder, which recognises the copyright protection on the tapes.
