Hi I'm looking to connect an existing freeview box to my laptop, mainly in order that i dont have to keep my laptop running to record programs, i already have a usb tv tuner and a SCART to aerial box left over from years ago, any help would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot connect a Freeview set top box to a computer system, whether desktop or laptop.

I really don't understand what you are saying - you want to connect it in order to NOT have the laptop running??

Does your freeview box have an aerial output?? A few do, and you could connect that to your USB TV tuner.

Otherwise you need a device with audio and video inputs, and a cable from SCART to AV plugs to connect to it.

Example device click here

It calls it a recorder - of course you can choose to record or just watch.

All do, otherwise as a DTB device they wouldn't work.

Some advice on possibly being able to connect the Freeview box to a USB tuner is given in this link about half-way down under FAQ:
