I am wanting to buy a good internal DVD burner and quality DVD+R media. I'm looking for MAXimum compatibility in as many players/PCs as possible.

After a bit reasearch, I have come up with:

[BURNER]
Model : NEC ND-3550A
NEC DVD+/-RW 16X DUAL LAYER

and [MEDIA]:
Taiyo Yuden White Full Face Print 8x DVD+R - Cello 100
This blank DVD from Taiyo-Yuden is a Printable 8x DVD of the + (plus) format - the Taiyo-Yuden Printable 8x DVD+R.

Any other suggestions? (I heard Pioneer is good, but is it better than NEC etc?)

Tks,

Depending on your needs, I would consider a burner that also can burn RAM as well as +/-RW and dual layer. For non reuse stuff of high volume - big files etc, the double layer is fine but I think is not available as a rewriter. RAM is like a hard disc to handle if you use it to make back ups, the filing is easier although media is dearer .I think LG and Sony do such burners. Try the Novatech website.

The NEC you mention is a bit old hat now - it's moved to 18x and 20x since.

I have this Sony GA170 (joint venture with NEC):

which has come down by about £5 since I bought it a few months ago.

Taiyo Yuden is probably the best media manufacturer in the world - several companies rebadge it under their own name and I use Imation media for this reason.
