Windows XP query?

I am just about to install a windows XP OP for the first time on my new machine. I have been told that it needs to be activated within 30 days for use with that same machine.

My query is this,if I need to either:

(1) Reformat the hard drive for some reason
or
(2) upgrade to a better hard drive,

will there be any problems involved with re-activation?

provided the activation centre doesn't detect that the software has been installed on a new computer.

When you instal WinXP it creates a unique 'hash' containing information about the hardware configuration of your machine. If you alter the configuration substantially - say by installing a new motherboard - the automatic activator may stop the activation and ask you to phone a Microsoft activation operator so you can explain the situation.

In practice it all works well, and you'll have no problems. Enjoy WindowsXP.

1) Activate like you did the first time.

2) XP should have no problem so just activate like the first time.

There is a maximum number of activations allowed before you have to call MS.
