Windows XP price question

  muscic lover 00:17 20 Mar 05

I am thinking of buying (and upgrading) to windows XP from windows Me.
What would a REAL copy of XP Home cost? And would it be better to get XP HOME or XP professional?? I want the CD so that if all crashes (never happened right?!).... well what better way to spend hours of time loading windows again?

A retail copy of xp upgrade costs from about £70, an oem edition about £10 less, but that expires with the machine, whereas the upgrade can be uninstalled and then installed on a new machine. Buy from well known retailer or mail order supplier, not from auction site or computer market. Look for easter offers

I can't see any reason for a home user to buy xp professional

Worth noting that the upgrade version is a full version (for clean installing) but requires a copy of 98, 98se or ME to be inserted during the install process.

or win 2000

XP Home is the better option as Xp Pro only gives you extra networking features and multi-processor support (not needed)...

You can buy Xp Home for £58.96 here: click here
