Windows Media Player and Windows Vista

I am researching the EU decision made against MicroSoft and was wondering...

Can you get Windows Vista without Windows Media Player? If not, does Microsoft passing on their server information/coding mean that there are other media players that can be used instead of WMP?

Any links that I could look at for both of these question?

Help would be greatly appreciated

Free players for Vista are Real Player, Quicktime, Winamp and I'm sure there are many more.
