Which Scanner for around £80 or less?

I'm considering the Canon Lide 80 (£83) and Epson 2480 (£66).

Both have 2400 x 4800 dpi resolution but Epson has 12800 x 12800 dpi interpolated dpi compared to 9600 x 9600 for the Canon. Also, the Cannon is Sheetfed whereas Epson is Flatbed.

I'm getting a bit paranoid about these specfics but it is confusing me. What I need is to be able to scan photos and normal A4 pages and books etc. Quality is quite important. Speed is not too important but it can't be too slow. I much prefer the Canon's slimline design, but the Epson's specs are equal and is quite a few quid cheaper too. Just can't decide, please advise..

dabs.com sells Canon scanners at much less than the prices you quote.

Depends exactly on what you need the scanner to achieve. You can buy scanners for even less from many outlets, especially cash and carry, that will return virtually indistinguishable results.

Many scanners are, in fact, rebadged products from specialist manufacturers.

Stuartli, the prices I quote are for the Canon Lide 80 and Epson 2480 from Savastore, both of which have been recommended highly on this forum. Dabs are actually more expensive than Savastore for these (£5 more for Canon and £8 for Epson).

I'll be using it primarily for scanning family photos and storing them onto PC, printing some them and emailing them, so quality and colour reproduction is quite important.

You can't go wrong with Canon, for anything!!

The Canon Lide 80 is a flatbed scanner as well.

The advantage of the Epson over the Canon is:

The Epson will also scan negatives and slides. I have the Epson 3170 (one up from the 2480) and the quality is very good. Also have a Canon Lide 20 (quite old now) but again the quality is also very good, but it doesn't scan negatives or slides.
